Muhtar family
The Tezcan family includes Şerif Tezcan, who served as muhtar from 1973-1977.
The Tezcan family is one of the rare families in the village of Mesudiye to have produced two muhtars (village heads) from two different generations. While Şerif Tezcan governed the village in the 1970s, some 45 years later Ali Beki Tezcan took over the same office. This family continuity, spread over such a long span of time, documents the deep-rooted place of the Tezcan family in village society.
Muhtar 1973–1977
Şerif Tezcan served as muhtar of the village of Mesudiye between 1973 and 1977. This period coincides with the years in which Turkey was going through a politically turbulent process. Taking over the office after Kazım Say's third term, Şerif Tezcan began the representation of a new family in the village administration.
Şerif Tezcan, who after completing his term left his place to Mustafa Bayraktar (1977–1984), is the family's first representative in the village administration. His four-year term is above the average of the village's history and brought the surname Tezcan into the village's tradition of the muhtar office for the first time.
Muhtar 2019–2024
Ali Beki Tezcan served as muhtar of the village of Mesudiye between 2019 and 2024. Coming into office after Cengiz Özşahines's record 20-year term as muhtar, Ali Beki Tezcan opened a new page in the village's administrative history.
His five-year term exceeded Şerif Tezcan's four years and raised the family's total time in the village administration to about nine years. Two muhtars from the same family serving a total of nine years equals the total term of the Gönen family (Hilmi 7 + Mehmet 2 = 9 years).
During his term difficult processes were experienced, such as the changes in Turkey's system of village administration and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on village life. After this period Ali Beki Tezcan left the office to Recep Evgin.
The Tezcan family is one of the families in the village's history to have produced muhtars from two different generations. The Gönen family also produced two muhtars (Hilmi and Mehmet), but the gap of about 45 years between Tezcan's two terms is unique. This long interval proves that the family's trustworthiness in village society lasted across generations.
