Veteran family
The Bayraktar family contributed multiple veterans across Mesudiye's war history, including İdris Bayraktar (WWI, lost two fingers) and İsmail Bayraktar (sıhhiye / medic, known as "Pehlivan Ağa"). The family was also a backbone of the 1980s Mesudiyespor football club.
The Bayraktar family is a long-established sülale that served Mesudiye village in both the military and the civilian sphere across three generations. Having raised two veterans (gazi) of the First World War, this family also continued its contributions to the village's administration and sporting life in the post-war period. İdris and İsmail Bayraktar carried the traces of the gazi status they brought from Rumeli both physically and culturally.
1887 Rumeli — 1966 Mesudiye
Son of Selim · 1887–1966
İdris Bayraktar, born in Rumeli in 1887, took part in the First World War and paid the war's heavy price with his body. He lost two fingers at the front.
After returning from the war İdris Bayraktar settled in Mesudiye village and died there in 1966 at the age of 79. The fingers he had lost were a reminder of the war for everyone who saw them.
1879 Rumeli — 1959 Mesudiye — “Pehlivan Ağa”
İsmail Bayraktar served as a sıhhiye (medical) orderly in the First World War. Working alongside specialist doctors, he treated wounded soldiers and witnessed both the military and the human dimension of the war.
After returning to the village once the war was over, he continued to use his medical knowledge and treated the villagers in their ailments.
Known for his wrestler's build, İsmail Bayraktar was known in the village by the nickname “Pehlivan Ağa” (wrestler agha). This nickname points both to his physical strength and to his respected position in the village. İsmail Bayraktar, son of Selim, died in Mesudiye in 1959 at the age of 80.
Muhtar 1977–1984
Mustafa Bayraktar, the family's third-generation representative, served as village muhtar for 7 years between 1977 and 1984. This is the second-longest term as muhtar in the village's history (after Cengiz Özşahines's 20 years).
Mustafa Bayraktar also served as a director of the Mesudiyespor football club, serving the village in both the political and the sporting sphere.
The Bayraktar family is one of the rare families that turned the gazi status brought back from the First World War into health care, the muhtar's office and sports administration in the village. This continuity, shown in different fields across three generations, gives the family a special place among Mesudiye's 54 surnames.
