WWI veteran who lost two fingers of his right hand in combat.
Born in Rumelia in 1887, İdris Bayraktar served in WWI. In combat, he lost two fingers of his right hand — a permanent injury that he carried for the rest of his life.
He is one of nine documented Mesudiye veterans of WWI. The Bayraktar family also includes İsmail Bayraktar (sıhhiye / medic, known as "Pehlivan Ağa"), Mustafa Bayraktar (muhtar 1977-1984, 7-year tenure), and Mesudiyespor footballers of the 1980s.

He fought in the First World War. During the war two fingers of his right hand were severed. His brother İsmail Bayraktar also served in the same war as a sıhhiye (medical corps) private.
İdris Bayraktar was born in Rumeli in 1887. His father is Selim. The Bayraktar family is one of the founding lineages of Mesudiye.
When the First World War broke out, İdris was called to arms. While fighting at the front, two fingers of his right hand were severed. This grave wound engraved him into the village's memory as one of our gazis (war veterans) who carried the price of the war in his body. Although his fingers were severed, he survived and returned to his village.
His brother İsmail Bayraktar also served in a sıhhiye (medical) unit in the same war. İsmail, who worked alongside surgeon doctors in the treatment of wounded soldiers, also treated many patients in civilian life and was known by the nickname “Pehlivan Ağa”. Both of Selim's sons served in the First World War, and both are our gazis.
İdris Bayraktar died in Mesudiye. The date of his death is not known with certainty. The fingers he lost in the war became the keepsake of the war that he carried all his life.
