Yemen veteran, stream-named surname
Abdullah Akan (1896-1969) of this family served on the Yemen front in WWI, was wounded by shrapnel, and survived because stream water cooled his wound. When the 1934 Surname Law required a family name, he chose "Akan" (flowing) as a tribute to the water that saved his life.
